Ingredients
For the Patty:
1 lb. lean ground beef (90% lean or higher)
1 small onion, finely chopped
2 cloves garlic, minced
1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
1 teaspoon Dijon mustard
Salt and pepper to taste
Optional: 1/4 cup finely chopped fresh herbs (parsley, basil, or cilantro)
For the Buns:
Whole grain or whole wheat hamburger buns
Toppings:
Fresh lettuce leaves
Sliced tomatoes
Sliced red onions
Sliced avocado
Pickles
Light cheese (optional)
Your favorite condiments (mustard, ketchup, or Greek yogurt mixed with herbs for a healthy sauce)
Instructions
Prepare the Patties:
In a large bowl, combine the lean ground beef, chopped onion, minced garlic, Worcestershire sauce, Dijon mustard, salt, pepper, and optional fresh herbs.
Mix until all ingredients are well combined.
Divide the mixture into 4 equal portions and shape each portion into a patty.
Cook the Patties:
Preheat a grill or non-stick skillet over medium-high heat.
Cook the patties for about 4-5 minutes on each side, or until they reach your desired level of doneness. Ensure they are cooked through, with no pink remaining inside.
Prepare the Buns:
Lightly toast the whole grain or whole wheat buns on the grill or in a toaster.
Assemble the Burgers:
Place a lettuce leaf on the bottom half of each bun.
Add the cooked patty on top of the lettuce.
Top with sliced tomatoes, red onions, avocado, pickles, and any additional toppings or condiments of your choice.
Cover with the top half of the bun.
